What is Penn State Coaches vs. Cancer? |
A
Strong and Community Minded Charity
The American Cancer Society's Penn State
Coaches vs. Cancer has risen nearly one million dollars
to fight cancer since it began in 1997. Funds have gone
to the Central Region – Centre Unit office of the
American Cancer Society
in State College,
The Foundation at Mt. Nittany Medical Center,
and have also supported numerous individuals and
families from our area who were or are currently
affected by cancer and in financial need.
A
founding member of Penn State CVC was Bob Perks.
He was an avid Penn State Basketball fan and supporter
of Coaches vs. Cancer who
remained active with the organization until his own
battle with cancer prevented him from doing so.
Bob lost his battle with
malignant melanoma in 2005 and shortly after his wife
Doreen formed the Bob Perks Cancer Assistance Fund (BPCAF).
This organization provides local individuals and
families with assistance while going through the
treatment process and is funded through money raised
from CVC events along with a foundation set up in Bob's
name. For more information on BPCAF, please visit their
website @
www.bpcaf.org.
