14th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Golf Tournament

Join Penn State Coach Ed DeChellis, a long list of noted sports celebrities and the Nittany Lion Hoops Club as they “Tee Off on Cancer” with two days of events. The 2010 event will be held on Friday, June 4th at the Penn State Blue and White Golf Courses. 

The festivities begin with a catered CVC Celebrity/Sponsor Reception for the top 3 sponsorship levels on Thursday, June 3rd at the Bryce Jordan Center on the Penn State campus.

  The event will feature celebrities and sponsors and provide the opportunity to hear testimonials of how funds raised at this event affect the lives of individuals and families in the Centre region.

Friday’s events start with golf registration at the Penn State Blue and White Golf Courses.  Breakfast will be served and is provided by Lead Tournament Sponsor Sheetz.  The tournament features a 5-man scramble format with shot-gun starts on both the White and Blue Courses. We have had over 350 golfers and celebrities, generally filling both golf courses.

The golf tournament grown every year since its beginning and raised a record contribution of more than $175,000 to help cancer victims, much of which will stay in Centre County and offer direct support to cancer victims and the organizations that assist them. "We are really excited and delighted with the tremendous support of our sponsors, celebrities and the community which has allowed Penn State's Coaches Vs. Cancer organization to grow and continue to assist so many people affected by cancer," DeChellis. "We have a very dedicated committee that has worked extremely hard to put on a first-class event which continues to get better every year."

The tournament features many sports celebrities, including numerous former Nittany Lion standouts. Among them were: Rahsaan Carlton, Gyasi Cline-Heard, Tom Daley, Mark DuMars, Dan Earl, Curtis Johnson, Matt Gaudio, Pete Lisicky, Glenn Sekunda, Tyler Smith and many more.

The CVC Golf Reception, CVC Awards Banquet and Silent Auction wrap things up following the completion of play Friday night at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel -  President’s Hall with an open bar  and dinner in the Ballroom.

A major part of the Golf Reception is our silent auction.  Past items in the auction have included autographed by Steelers Joe Greene and Dan Rooney, PSU Football autographed by Larry Johnson and Tamba Hali, Nickelback autographed photograph, 2005-2006 PSU game jersey autographed by Geary Claxton, and many more great collectibles.
